"The Wicked Deep" by Shea Ernshaw
"The Wicked Deep" by Shea Ernshaw is definitely an interesting book that is just right for
this time of year. It is about a small town in Oregon that has a curse because the townspeople in the
1800s decided to drown three sisters that made all the men in the town fall for them so they thought
they were witches. Every year the three sisters come back and possess three young girls and they lure
the young boys to drown them in the ocean. The bay is also full of ghosts of sailors who drowned in
the ocean from storms. Penny Talbot is a high school girl who her father disappeared three years ago
which made her mom go crazy and never act the same. They take care of the lighthouse on the island
that the dad had bought before Penny was born and actually she was born on the island. She has had to
endure this curse each summer when school let out her whole life. One day she sees a young man
on her boat dock and goes to see what he wants. He had found her want ad for someone to care for the
lighthouse. At first she says no but later on lets him. They fall in love and have to deal with the curse
and all the crazy things that go with it. It was a really crazy read and I did not expect the ending. This
book had one of my favorite topics to read about and that is witches. I would give it a five out of five
stars. Its definitely in my top twenty reads this year. If you like horror, YA and witches this would be a
book I would recommend for you to read.
